Role.

Bass-heavy, slow and percussive. You could slow dance to it, or you could skate to it.

playing the part of a shadow

playing the part of a shadow

I know the part that you’re reading for
The script you’re poring over and the blocking you’ve imagined
But your scenery doesn’t really fit the staging
You better take some new directions in the margins

You want to play the long suffering heroine
I’m supposed to be the villain using you line by line
But this writer’s strike hasn’t left us much to work with here
Except for dumdum bubble gum pablum on rewind

It’s all so real, it’s just like reality
It’s close enough to actual
But replace the facts with facility
In this class act, where your actions are trained classically
We can wear the mask
So we can act naturally

I suppose you think you’ve got good reasons
I suppose you’ve come to view this as a contest of will
I suppose you think when it all goes to pieces
You’ll have all the ammo you’ll need for the kill

And at the curtain calls you’ll get your ovation
Because truly this is it, the role of a lifetime
And you put your all into playing your part
Just like you convinced yourself that I played mine

It’s all so real, it’s just like reality
It’s close enough to actual
But replace the facts with facility
In this class act, where your actions are trained classically
We can wear the mask
So we can act naturally
